Eloping at Ecola State Park | Austin + Autumn’s Rainy Coastal “I Do”
There’s something undeniably magical about the Oregon Coast — the kind of beauty that doesn’t depend on perfect weather or blue skies. In September of 2023, I had the honor of photographing Austin and Autumn’s elopement at Ecola State Park, where moody skies, salty air, and misty rain set the tone for an unforgettable day.
They traveled from out of state with a small group of family and friends, ready to embrace whatever the Oregon weather had planned — and it definitely delivered. As the wind picked up and raindrops began to fall, they exchanged their vows overlooking the vast Pacific. It wasn’t the sunshine-filled ceremony most couples imagine, but it was real, raw, and beautifully them.
Wrapped in the sound of waves and the soft hush of rain, their day was filled with laughter, soaked hair, and that kind of cozy connection that only happens when you lean into the moment instead of resisting it.
That’s what I love most about eloping on the Oregon Coast — it’s never about perfection. It’s about presence. About letting go of expectations and embracing the unpredictable magic that makes the day entirely your own.
If you’re dreaming of an Oregon Coast elopement and traveling from out of state, here are a few things to know:
Permits: Ecola State Park often requires a permit for ceremonies and photography. It’s best to check with Oregon State Parks a few months in advance.
Weather: Be prepared for shifting coastal conditions — even in summer! Bring warm layers, clear umbrellas, and waterproof makeup if possible.
Accessibility: There are several stunning overlook points and short trails, so you can choose how adventurous you want your day to be.
Timing: Early mornings or weekdays tend to be quieter and offer more privacy for your ceremony.
